In RINGS, your Hand looks how you want them to look – it’s that simple. A swarm of bees, a minotaur made of lightning, a small dog that barks glitter – your Hand can look like anything with a few important restrictions:
- At lvl 1, you fit in one space. While there are means to increase your Size later on, everyone starts at size 1. Even if you’re smaller. You cannot pass through, share, or otherwise be in a space with something else.
- You can breathe air and in water (with a breather if needed) and that’s it. You can be a squid made of stars but you breathe air and water.
- The ability to fly has no impact on your movement in combat. Most species that fly don’t hover and those that do still need time to maneuver. If you want to climb, it’s half Speed like everyone else.
- You are solid and visible. No passing through things; no going invisible without a Sneak check.
- You have a means of conveyance. You could be a brain in a jar carried around by one of the other team members or have a robot body built for you, but you either have natural or artificial methods of getting around without difficulty and using all your equipment.
- You can communicate with others either through sound, consensual psychic interaction, or sign language.
- You’re probably made from the substance native to your origin World for sentient life. However, exceptions exist. Write a cool back story.
RINGS
Not needing hands doesn’t stop you from wearing a Ring. There’s a thousand ways to display the Ring about your person and usually involves having it embedded or worn on your body or hovering nearby. A Ring can’t be forcibly removed either, you can’t drop or lose it. Only the wearer can remove a Ring and ONLY in exchange for another.
On the opposite end of the scale, having more than ten fingers doesn’t mean you can wear more than ten Rings either. Due to cognitive load, no one can wear more than ten Rings.
CHARACTER CREATION
Some questions to ask yourself during character creation:
- What am I made of?
- How do I get around and use objects?
- Do I call myself by a type (morphid, vampire, octopoid, mistform) or do I prefer not having a label?
- What are my distinguishing features?
- How do I communicate with others?
- Do I have a sexual identity or orientation or do I not bother?
- How do I decorate or express myself?
REPRODUCTION
Magic has its own influence when it comes to nature. Many species in RINGS asexually reproduce and that can include certain sentients. Having offspring is a matter of wanting to AND choosing to – sex sometimes has nothing to do with it. (It’s still an enjoyable act anyone or anything can choose to do; it just doesn’t have the biological imperative it does here.) To be clear, this means gender and sexuality don’t play a huge role in someone’s identity unless they want it to. People use the pronouns and descriptors they want to use and that’s all.
