Weapons

Anything can be a weapon, anything. What matters is what type of damage you want the weapon to do and whether it’s melee or ranged.

Every Hand has both a Melee and a Ranged weapon set – one of each. There are situations or powers where you might wind up with more or fewer weapons, but those are rare. Opponents may have one or both or – in rare cases – multiple sets.

You can CARRY as many weapons as you would like, but barring a power or ability, you may not switch weapon sets during a Mission.

WEAPON DAMAGE

Weapons use their chosen STAT to determine both which STAT you use to make your ATTACK roll, but also how much base damage the attack will do if successful.

Stats don’t have an innate connection to any weapon slot; it’s you that provides the power for your weapon to work.

MELEE

Melee weapons do [STAT/3] additional damage on hit since you’re more vulnerable to attack. But using melee require you to be adjacent or within threat range (usually adjacent unless modified by powers).

RANGED

Ranged weapons can reach a target anywhere within 10 spaces and do not do bonus damage like melee. However, if an ally (not you) is adjacent to an enemy, ranged attacks add [STAT/3] dice to the ATTACK roll. If an ally is adjacent to multiple opponents, the bonus applies to all eligible opponents. This modifier does not stack if you have multiple allies adjacent to an opponent or if you are attacking multiple opponents with one attack.

DESIGNING A WEAPON

  1. MELEE OR RANGED
  2. BODY, MIND, OR WILL
  3. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
  4. HOW DO YOU USE IT?
  5. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HIT SOMETHING WITH IT?
  6. WHY DO YOU USE THIS WEAPON?

BREAKING WEAPONS

Sometimes sacrifices must be made. Upon being the target of a successful attack, you may choose to Break one of your weapons. The weapon will consume the damage of the attack, but will no longer be functional until you return to Hope or have an appropriately leveled Crafter. You cannot replace this weapon until then. Breaking your weapon, which might be part of your own body, is a serious decision and not a minor inconvenience.
