Human

It felt like they had finally figured it out: the needs of all met, a global government dedicated to the well-being of its people, distant planets scouted for new colonies. Driven to the brink of destruction, Humans turned towards unity…
…and then the Collapse. Still, there was a bit of good news.
Two things were proven true: there IS life out there and magic exists. While the influx of magic onto the Earth had an immediate and obvious effect on the populace, changing the bilaterally symmetrical mammals into more diverse forms found throughout the Cluster, the World itself was warped even moreso: the great canyons of Illinois, the Serengeti Sea, the Korean glaciers.
Despite the tragedy of the Collapse, Humans were thrilled: more places to explore that weren’t vast gulfs of space. People to meet! Technology to exchange! Magic to untangle. Nothing is going to stop Humans from getting into absolutely everything. Fortunately, no one is terribly interested in stopping them – overall they do far more good than harm.
Some Humans struggle with their new forms, but most found the change welcome – reflecting some aspect of themselves they’d always wish to embody.

WHERE THEY’RE FROM

Earth is a very different place from what we know now and Humans barely had anything to do with it. Natural disasters, solar flares, the change in rotation of the planet’s core, it was all humanity could do to survive the Collapse. The overall land mass available has remained relatively consistent, but new continents rising from the ocean floor and the flooding of much of Russia means that few locations remain unchanged.

ADVANTAGE: UNCANNY VALLEY

Evolved within a single, fixed reality, humans are very good at detecting Anomalies. As long as they can sense it somehow – vision, touch, sound, etc – a human can almost always tell when something didn’t start off as real. Once between rests, a Human may reroll a failed roll to detect an anomaly.

KEY QUALITIES

Curious, neotenous, impulsive in the short term and risk-averse in the long term

HOW THEY EXPERIENCE THE WORLD

“But I’m plasma now! It doesn’t make any sense I can’t walk through fire. I’m gonna try it anyways.”

HEALING

Human technology progressed leaps and bounds in regards to healing, but it still takes time. Out of combat, a Human can heal anyone to full as often as needed. During combat, triage is considerably more limited, and a Human can heal themselves or allies half of their max HP four times before needing to replenish their ever-generating medkits.

WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?

Mostly warm-blooded mammal. Mostly. Magic hit the Earth hard and fantastical or animalistic traits or shapes are very, very common, to the point where the bipedal cousin of the ape is a rarity these days.
