The Anaes believe that death must serve the living and that flesh must serve the will. They take these tenets very literally. An Anaes may appear different from day-to-day due to their fleshcraft, but you’ll always recognize them by their careful language, House insignia or colours, and obligant tattoos, showing who gets their flesh and bones when they die. Not to mention their skeletal servants, turned into walking works of art and sworn to serve the Anaes until they crumble away.
WHERE THEY’RE FROM
Anaesh is a small dark planet with low gravity under a dying star. The planet itself has gained a limited form of awareness and its minerals can be molded like putty using the Anaes’ fleshcraft and the dead can be reanimated to serve the living. Anaes society is millions of years old and complicated social structures have developed to ensure mutual survival in a resource-poor environment.
ADVANTAGE: FLESHCRAFTING
Anaes are capable of incredible feats of sculpture and surgery – skills they regard as one and the same. An Anaes can mold anything like clay if they so wish. Once between rests, an Anaes can shape a mass no bigger than a car into something crude but useful – a hut to sleep in, a replacement weapon (rolls with such a weapon are made at -2 dice), a set of handholds for a long climb. They must have the raw material to work with and it will retain all the properties it possesses normally once the Anaes is done shaping it, ie stone will be hard, glass will be transparent, etc. Instead of something else, Anaes can also modify themselves. While their stats don’t change, they can take on any appearance, albeit not closely enough to mimic someone else without successful CRAFT and PERFORM rolls.
KEY QUALITIES
The Anaes are intelligent and loyal, slow to anger but tenacious as enemies. Due to their fleshcraft, they live on average three times as long as other species and see it as their role to lend their expertise to a cause. Because of their highly developed set of societal obligations and rules around etiquette, Anaes can be seen as stuffy or formal, but try to assume the best intentions of others.
HOW THEY EXPERIENCE THE WORLD
“Dura of the Wailing Azure, who shaped the sixteenth moon of Anaesh, set it there in all its glory that it may shine over us for generations until it too decayed and gave way to the seventeenth, put forth as a principle of her House that those who are best suited often shy away from stepping forward in times of need. Oh, you’re not following. Let someone else try to defuse the bomb before you kill us all, idiot.”
HEALING
Anaes can use their fleshcraft on others but require time and attention to do so. Out of combat, an Anaes can operate on anyone to heal their wounds, bringing them to full. When operating on another, they do not need biomass as they do for their own transformations. When used in combat, however, an Anaes may only do this twice before they need to rest. An Anaes may operate on themselves or another in combat, but must be adjacent to perform fleshcraft on another.
WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?
Anaes are made of Anaesh…or perhaps it’s the other way around. Anaes are most often made of the living earth, which resembles firm clay in a variety of earth tones. They can grow hair but may just as regularly have rocky protrusions.
